Get involved in Tacoma’s heritage – Volunteers needed for commission
The Tacoma City Council is inviting qualified individuals to provide leadership in the preservation of Tacoma’s history by applying to serve on the Landmarks Preservation Commission.

If you have experience or training related to historic preservation originating from employment, volunteerism or study within a related discipline, and reside or work within the City of Tacoma, be sure to apply.  

The Council is seeking applicants for the following positions:

  • Architect.
  • Professional (two openings) – open to individuals with professional qualifications in disciplines related to historic preservation.
  • At-large (two openings) – open to individuals familiar with preservation issues and topics.

The Landmarks Preservation Commission advises the City Council and is comprised of 12 citizen volunteers who serve three-year terms. The commission oversees the establishment and regulation of landmarks, landmark sites and historic districts.

Commission meetings are held at 5 p.m. on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month. Members are approved by the City Council.
