Budget Goal Setting Work Session scheduled
During study session on June 19, members of City Council are scheduled to have a Budget Goal Setting Work Session. The purpose of the work session is to establish a budgetary and fiscal baseline, to set service delivery priorities and fiscal policy, and to discuss specific policy areas having potential impact to the 2013-2014 Biennial Budget. The Council will not take public comment during the noon study session in the Tacoma Municipal Building North, 733 Market St., Room 16. Audio from the session will be broadcast live on TV Tacoma and on www.tvtacoma.com. On-demand audio archives are available on the web within 24 hours of the meeting at www.tvtacoma.com.

Opportunity to learn about cyber security technology in Tacoma on June 18
You won’t want to miss the first Tacoma Means Business Entrepreneur Networking Event focused on idea sharing about Tacoma’s own cyber security technology sector from 5-7 p.m. on June 18 at the Hotel Murano. Tacoma’s Mayor and City officials will talk with industry professionals, work force developers and business owners about the important role cyber security plays in economic development in the South Sound now and into the future. Celebrate the re-opening of the Hylebos Bridge corridor on June 20
Join the City of Tacoma to celebrate the opening of the Hylebos Bridge on Wednesday, June 20, 2012, from 9 to 9:30 a.m. at the Hylebos Bridge, which spans the Hylebos Waterway on the east side of the Tacoma Tideflats located at 3590 E. 11th St. The celebration will include a short list of speakers and a ribbon cutting. This is an outdoor event located on the east side of the bridge. Attendees are encouraged to wear appropriate footwear and to dress for the weather. City seeks your input at 10 Community Budget Input Meetings
Tacoma residents are invited to participate in the creation of the 2013-2014 Biennial Budget through a series of Community Budget Input Meetings in late June and July in the five City Council Districts across the city. The purpose of the Community Budget Input Meetings is to help residents understand the City’s budget development process and provide an opportunity to speak with City officials about current and future budget allocations and priorities. Current projections for the City’s General Fund in the 2013-2014 biennium anticipate a budget gap between $60 and $65 million.

Community Budget Input Meeting schedule:

• June 25 – 6 p.m. at the Main Tacoma Library, 1102 Tacoma Ave., Olympic Room
• June 27 – 5:30 p.m. at the Wheelock Library, 3722 N. 26th St.
• June 28 – 6 p.m. at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 6730 N. 17th St.
• July 9 – 6 p.m. at the Boys & Girls Club, 3875 S. 66th St., Community Room
• July 11 – 6 p.m. at the Moore Library, 215 S. 56th St.
• July 12 – 6 p.m. at the Center at Norpoint, 4818 Nassau Ave.
• July 16 – 6 p.m. at the Snake Lake Nature Center, 1919 S. Tyler St.
• July 18 – 6 p.m. at Stadium High School, 111 N. E St.
• July 19 – 6 p.m. at Lincoln High School, 701 S. 37th St.
• July 23 – 6 p.m. at Baker Middle School, 8320 S. I St.

Input from residents will be used by City staff to help determine how General Fund dollars will be spent on such services as those provided by police, fire, libraries, street maintenance,  social services and support for the arts and cultural programs.
