POSTHUMOUS MEMORIAL CEREMONY HELD FOR FALLEN OFFICER
When the memorial art piece "The Thin Blue Line" was dedicated at the TPD Headquarters in May 2006, it was discovered through contact with the family that Officer William Wickman was buried in an unmarked grave in South Tacoma. Subsequent research by Officer Erik Timothy, the Department's Historian, revealed that Officer Wickman had been buried in an unmarked grave since his death in the line of duty in 1925 in what is now Oakwood Hill Cemetery. Research also indicated that there was apparently never an official memorial service held for Officer Wickman.
Officer Wickman received full honors and a headstone was placed on his grave during the ceremony. The Tacoma Police Department would like to thank Tacoma Monument for their generous donation of Officer Wickman's headstone, and the Oakwood Hill Cemetery for their generous donation of moving and placing the headstone.
