Before you throw something in the garbage, ask yourself if it can be reused, repaired or donated. Solid Waste Management offers programs and services online and at the Tacoma Landfill to help you find a new home for your reusable items.

If you have perfectly good items that are too good to toss in the garbage, list them on 2good2toss.com, a free online resource where you can give away or sell (up to $199) your reusable household items and building materials.

List or browse for items in more than 40 categories ranging from appliances, automotive parts and furniture to landscaping supplies, sports equipment and electronics. There’s even a category for announcing garage sales, another way to reuse unwanted items. 2good2toss.com also features photo capability so you can let the pictures do the talking.

When you sell items on 2good2toss.com, you’re not only saving landfill space, but saving money on disposal costs.

Donate
Chances are someone else has a use for your unwanted items. Many local charities accept a wide variety of donations for resale, reuse or recycling. Another option to keep perfectly good, reusable items out of the landfill is to give away, buy or sell items on 2good2toss.com.

Household items and furniture

Donate your reusable, gently-used household items and furniture at the attended Goodwill donation station, located at the City of Tacoma Recycling Center (Tacoma Landfill). A Goodwill attendant will be on hand to take your items from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., seven days a week.

Wherever you donate, please remember to do so responsibly:

• Donate only when donation locations are open.
• Report to your local authorities any suspicious activity you see around donation locations that are closed.
• Give thoughtfully. Only reusable, gently-used items can be sold in thrift stores.
