The 2010 Annual Amendment to the Comprehensive Plan was adopted by the City Council on June 15, 2010, per Amended Ordinance No. 27892. The adopted changes became effective on August 1, 2010 and affected the following four elements: Growth Strategy and Development Concept, Generalized Land Use, Transportation, and Urban Forest Policy (a new element), as highlighted in yellow in the table below.
The City of Tacoma's Comprehensive Plan is the official statement adopted by the City Council setting forth goals and policies to protect the health, welfare, safety, and quality of life of Tacoma's residents. The Comprehensive Plan was developed, and has been amended on an annual basis, under the auspices of the Planning Commission, in accordance with the Washington State Growth Management Act (GMA).
The Comprehensive Plan consists of 25 elements. Elements #1-14 are in chapter format designed for compilation in a 3-ring binder, while the rest are stand-alone documents and will eventually be converted into chapters. The Comprehensive Plan is subject to amendments no more frequently than once a year, pursuant to GMA.
