Applications Open for Sustainability Small Grant Program

--Round 1 Applications Due March 31, 2024--

TACOMA, Wash. - The City of Tacoma’s Office of Environmental Policy and Sustainability has announced it is reopening the Sustainability Small Grant program after a year and a half hiatus. This grant offers financial support for sustainability-focused projects within the Tacoma community. Successful grant applications will showcase initiatives that contribute to the protection and restoration of our local environment, the implementation of sustainable practices, and the overall improvement of Tacoma's cleanliness, safety, and livability.

Local non-profits, community groups, and organizations can now apply for grant funding up to $5,000 to support environmental and sustainability programs, events, or projects in Tacoma. These projects align with key objectives outlined in Tacoma’s 2030 Climate Action Plan and contribute to the enhancement of the City’s Solid Waste, Wastewater, and Stormwater utilities.

Grant funding will be distributed in two rounds, with the first-round deadline set for March 31, 2024 at 11:59 PM, and the second round commencing on July 1, 2024 and closing on September 30, 2024.

The Sustainable Tacoma Commission will review and award each proposed project. This commission upholds community accountability, transparency, and vigilance in overseeing the long-term implementation of Tacoma’s 2030 Climate Action Plan. Priority funding may be granted to first-time applicants.

Applicants have a range of project options to explore during the application process. Events, programs, and projects that benefit Tacoma’s economy, support social equity, and address the causes or impacts of climate change will receive extra consideration. Projects can also aim to educate residents and businesses on environmental issues and sustainable practices.

More information – including application materials, timelines, and project ideas – is available at cityoftacoma.org/ESGrants. Inquiries or requests for assistance completing applications can be directed to sustainability@cityoftacoma.org or (253) 591-5172.
