The City of Tacoma has temporarily closed the Eells Street Bridge over the Puyallup River, which connects Puyallup Avenue in Tacoma with Pacific Highway South in Fife, following an accident that damaged the bridge.
Late this afternoon a truck ran into part of the bridge and City of Tacoma engineers are working with the Washington State Department of Transportation to assess the damage. Until that assessment is complete, all traffic will have to find alternate routes. Alternate routes include using the Interstate 5 bridge over the Puyallup River, or the Lincoln Avenue bridge.
Emergency vehicles will have limited access to cross the bridge from Fife to Tacoma while crews assess the damage.
