The City of Tacoma announced today that it has selected an award winning design-build team for the public garage which will be constructed on property adjacent to the historic Elks Temple building in downtown Tacoma.
GLY Construction and Zimmer Gunsul Frasca Architects (ZGF) was the team selected for the public garage project. ZGF will design the project and GLY Construction will provide general contracting and construction services.
The City will construct the public garage of approximately 280 stalls, in conjunction with a private mixed-use development above the garage, which will be constructed by a separate contract between Elks on Broadway, LLC and the same design-build team. The private development will consist of a grocery store, retail space and five floors of apartments.
The project is located on the site just north of the historic Elks Temple building, which will be restored and renovated by McMenamins (an entertainment and hospitality company) into a combination brewpub, music venue, hotel and spa.
Construction is slated to begin in the fall of 2010 with an opening scheduled for the spring of 2012.
