On May 4, members of the City Council are scheduled to receive a briefing on the upcoming City of Destiny Awards scheduled for May 11 at Stadium High School. As a second item on the agenda, City Council is scheduled to receive a presentation from the Finance Department regarding the department’s budget, services and goals. The Council will not take public comment during the noon study session in the Tacoma Municipal Building North, 733 Market St., Room 16. Members of City Council are scheduled May 4 to consider a resolution that would authorize the submittal of the 2010-2015 Five Year Consolidated Plan, which includes the 2010-2011 Annual Action Plan, to the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development. The Consolidated Plan is a five-year Housing and Community Development Strategic Plan comprised of three sections that include community needs, a five-year strategy and an Annual Action Plan.

Learn more about the status of electronic on-street pay stations in Tacoma at a public meeting next week. A 12-member citizen panel has been meeting to advise Tacoma’s city manager and the City Council on key features of the paid parking system. The advisory group hosts a meeting for stakeholders and interested citizens on the first Thursday of each month. The next public meeting is scheduled for 5 p.m. on May 6 at the Pantages Theater (901 Broadway).

The City of Tacoma will recognize Tacoma’s outstanding volunteers at the 24th annual City of Destiny Awards at 7 p.m. on May 11. Mayor Strickland and the City Council will honor local volunteers for their exemplary service during a ceremony held at Stadium High School in the auditorium (111 N. E St.).
