Youth violence prevention programs lead study session agenda
Members of the City Council are scheduled Oct. 24 to hear a presentation from the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department on effective youth violence reduction and gang intervention programs. The Health Department and other local community agencies use these programs with juveniles and other high-risk offenders; the presentation will review the measurable outcomes as well as the cost/benefit comparisons. Council members are also scheduled to hear an update on the status of Tacoma’s current emission levels and ongoing local global warming initiatives. The Council will not take public comment during the noon study session in Tacoma Municipal Building North, Room 16. Replays of the study session audio may be heard Wednesday nights at 7 p.m. on CityPost (Channel 85 on Click!, Channel 77 on Comcast). Resolution would expand the Tacoma Register of Historic Places
City Council members are scheduled Oct. 24 to consider a resolution that would add three properties to the Tacoma Register of Historic Places. The Landmarks Preservation Commission approved the nomination of the following properties: the Whitworth College Literary Society Building, 4604 N. 38th St.; the Balfour Dock, 705 Dock St.; and the Hammer Building located at 1135 Tacoma Ave. S. These properties reflect outstanding examples of the City’s cultural, artistic, social, architectural and historic heritage – the designation would foster civic pride in the beauty and accomplishments of the past.
