How you can get involved

The City of Tacoma believes its citizens rate as the most valuable asset of Tacoma. The City offers many ways for citizens to participate in government. Citizens are invited to attend all public meetings. Disabled persons who need special accommodations should contact the City Clerk's Office at (253) 591-5171, 48 hours before the scheduled meeting time.

blue arrow Citizens' Forum
Citizens' Forum takes place on the second Tuesday of every month. During Citizens' Forum, citizens may address the Council on any issue under the City's jurisdiction that is not on that evening's agenda. 
 
blue arrow Vision Line
The City Manager maintains a 24-hour voice mail line to record ideas, suggestions, issues and concerns from citizens. Call (253) 591-2020 to leave a message. The City Manager's Office will respond and/or forward the message to the appropriate department.

CityLine is aired live Thursday at 9 a.m.  TV Tacoma produces this one-hour live call-in talk show discussing issues related to City government. Viewers may call in at (253) 591-2061 during the show to participate in the discussion.
 
blue arrow Neighborhood Councils
The City Council established the Neighborhood Council program in 1993 to provide a link between neighborhoods and City government. The Neighborhood Councils serve as advisory bodies to the City Council and City staff on neighborhood matters. Call (253) 591-5229.

blue arrow Tacoma CARES (Tacoma Cleanup And Revitalization EffortS)
Tacoma CARES brings together several City services to help with clean-up efforts in Tacoma's neighborhoods. It involves immediate steps to work with neighbors to clean up garbage and debris, and involves a long-range plan to revitalize, improve and maintain city neighborhoods. Call (253) 591-5001.

blue arrow City Council Meetings
Meetings are held Tuesdays at 5 p.m. in the Council Chambers, first floor of the Tacoma Municipal Building, 747 Market Street, Tacoma, Washington. TV Tacoma airs the meetings live and replays them during the following week on TV Tacoma, Channel 12.

Citizen Presentation Guidelines at City Council Meetings Citizens may speak about items on the Council agenda when the item comes before Council for discussion.

The Mayor will ask for comments from the audience.

The Council takes public testimony on resolutions and at the first readings of ordinances.

You may submit letters or call the Council office at (253) 591-5100 with your concerns or issues.
