The City of Tacoma Proclaims September 14-23 as Welcoming Week

The Tacoma City Council proclaimed Sept. 14-23 as Welcoming Week in the city of Tacoma at the Sept. 11 Council Meeting.

Welcoming Week celebrates immigrant and foreign-born residents who are a vital thread in the fabric of Tacoma and is an opportunity to showcase the economic, social and cultural contributions made by immigrant and foreign-born community members.

To demonstrate the City’s commitment to making Tacoma a more welcoming and inclusive to immigrant and refugee communities, the City partnered with 18 organizations to celebrate Welcoming Week.

The week will include activities and events, including free screenings of “Sleep Dealer” at 1:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18 at the Grand Cinema. The movie is presented in partnership with the City’s Office of Equity and Human Rights and the Grand Cinema.

For a full list of 2018 Welcoming Week events, visit Tacoma Community House online at tacomacommunityhouse.org/welcomingweek2018.

The City of Tacoma joined the Welcoming Cities and Counties Initiative in 2014. More information about the City’s progress toward its Tacoma2025 goals is available on the Results253 page at data.cityoftacoma.org.
