A Statement From Mayor Victoria Woodards
on Governor Jay Inslee’s March 23 Stay-at-Home Order

TACOMA, Wash. -- "These are difficult times, and leaders across the world are being asked to make difficult decisions for the health and wellbeing of the communities we serve. Limiting the spread of COVID-19 is a serious responsibility, and I want to thank Governor Jay Inslee for his leadership and for keeping the channels of communication open with all levels of government. I share his desire to help our communities return to normal as soon as possible, and I know that these orders are a way to do just that.

These new changes will challenge all of us. I remain committed to seeking solutions to the impacts of these changes and protecting the health and wellbeing of all Tacoma community members.  I will work with my colleagues on the City Council, our partners in the community and at every level of government to mitigate the challenges before us as we work to contain the spread of COVID-19. I want to call on every member of our community, to join me in exercising resilience, innovation and compassion, and finding ways to encourage and support one another as we all abide by these new measures to protect public health. Our everyday choices — how we shop, reaching out to friends and family, and finding ways to give hope to others — have the power to bring great strength to our community as we weather this storm.”
