Council Member Keith Blocker - Position 3
Council Member Keith Blocker was first elected to represent District 3 in 2015 and began his first term in 2016. He was re-elected in 2019 and began his final term in 2020.
As Chair of the City Council’s Economic Development Committee, Council Member Blocker has centered equity, access, and inclusion as foundational principles.
Believing that living wage jobs, access to affordable housing for all, and digital equity are essential to moving Tacoma forward, Council Member Blocker has led efforts to invest more resources to better address the complex needs of our unhoused neighbors. He also worked with community members, City staff, and Council colleagues to strengthen tenant protections, and led efforts to create the City’s Immigrant Legal Defense Fund.
In December 2022, Council Member Blocker brought forth Ordinance 28866. This ordinance codified the City’s Office of Equity & Human Rights as well as the responsibilities of the City Manager to ensure the progression of the City’s anti-racist transformation efforts now, and in the years to come.
Infrastructure and community safety are also key priorities for Council Member Blocker. Over the past several years, a substantial number of residential streets in his district have been repaired. He has also supported budget proposals to hire more police officers and firefighters.
Council Member Blocker’s devotion to improving our community has earned him the City Club of Tacoma's Dennis Seinfeld’s Emerging Leadership Award and the Business Masters Exchange Club of Pierce County Golden Deeds Award. He is also a senior fellow of the American Leadership Forum.
A graduate of the University of Puget Sound, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in communication studies, Council Member Blocker is Chief of Operations of Momentum Professional Strategies Partners and founder of ROWHOUSE International.
