Service Update September 27, 2021-Styrofoam Machine Out of Service
The Styrofoam processing machine located at the Tacoma Recycle Center is currently inoperable. Due to the age of the equipment it is in need of major repairs, and the timeline remains uncertain. We realize this is an inconvenience and appreciate your patience as we work to get this issue resolved.
While recycling Styrofoam is ideal, Styrofoam cannot be placed in commingled recycling containers. Styrofoam can be disposed of in your curbside garbage, however, it must fit inside your containers with the lids closed.
We understand that customers may not have the space or ability to store their Styrofoam materials. We also understand that fitting Styrofoam into your curbside garbage may be challenging due to its size. In an effort to accommodate our customers and help protect the environment, we are offering the following alternatives while we await repairs on the processing machine:
Landfill Styrofoam Free of Charge at the Recycle Center
A black container will temporarily be available at the Tacoma Recycle Center, where residents can dispose of Styrofoam inserts free of charge. These materials will be landfilled while our processing machine remains under repair. The Recycle Center is located at 3110 S. Mullen St and is open seven days a week from 8 AM-5:30 PM.

Bring Styrofoam to Alternate Recycling locations
Residents who are willing and able to drive their materials to alternate locations can recycle their Styrofoam at:
We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience as we work towards permanent repairs.
