I-5 & South 56th Street Interchange ADA Compliance Project

 

Project Description

In an agreement with the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT), the City of Tacoma is constructing new ADA compliant pedestrian crossing ramps along the sidewalks and on/off ramps at the interchange of I-5 with S 56th Street and at the intersection of Tacoma Mall Boulevard and S 56th Street

Construction of concrete pedestrian crossing ramps and street paving is complete. Project is currently completing the pedestrian signal system and streetlight equipment. Anticipated completion paint striping and landscape restoration in June 2023, depending on weather.

 

Project Features

In addition to the pedestrian crossing ramps, construction will include upgrades to pedestrian signals with new accessible push buttons, signage, video detection and striping.

 

Project Funding

WSDOT has funded the project as part of the I2 Safety/Collision Prevention Program for design, construction, and administration by the City of Tacoma.
