This evening, we honored the legacy of resilience and freedom at the #TacCouncil meeting with the #Juneteenth Proclamation, officially declaring Thursday, June 19, 2025, as Juneteenth throughout #Tacoma. 🎉
Juneteenth commemorates the pivotal events of June 19, 1865, when Major General... Gordon Granger led Union soldiers into Galveston, Texas. They brought the monumental news that the Civil War had ended, declaring all enslaved people free nearly two and a half years prior through the Emancipation Proclamation.
🌟 Come celebrate with us at the @juneteenthwa Celebration at Stewart Heights Park from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Join us as we raise the Juneteenth Flag over the @thetacomadome for the very first time on Wednesday, June 18, at 4:00 PM! Together, let us continue to reflect on our journey toward justice and equality for all. 🖤💚❤️
