Tanisha Jumper Appointed Media and Communications Director

Tacoma, Wash. -- Tacoma City Manager Elizabeth Pauli has appointed Tanisha Jumper to the permanent position of Media and Communications director for the City of Tacoma, effective today. While overseeing the City’s work in support of Tacoma 2025 – a community-informed strategic vision and framework for Tacoma’s future – Jumper had also been serving as Media and Communications director in an interim capacity for the past nine months.

“Tanisha has been responsible for ensuring that the City of Tacoma continues to distinguish itself through excellent communications and enhanced efforts to engage the public we serve, while providing ongoing guidance to departments regarding their efforts to achieve our Tacoma 2025 strategic visioning goals,” said Pauli. “We look forward to her continued leadership.”

As Media and Communications director, Jumper will oversee the City’s marketing, public relations, media relations and internal communications efforts, while working with departments on strategies to promote government transparency and encourage civic engagement. She will also continue to provide executive oversight of the City’s work in support of Tacoma 2025.

"It is an honor to serve as the City’s newest Media and Communications director," said Jumper. "I am pleased to have this opportunity to continue building on the work we’ve already achieved and taking things to the next level.”

Born in Seattle and raised in Pierce County, Jumper returned to Tacoma from Dayton, Ohio in March 2015.

In Dayton, Jumper served for seven years as the senior vice president of community impact for United Way of the Greater Dayton Area. Prior to that, she held management and executive leadership roles at Miami Valley Child Development Centers, Unified Health Solutions and Greater Dayton Premier Management.

Jumper earned her bachelor’s degree in political science from Wilberforce University in Wilberforce, Ohio.
