Taylor Way Rehabilitation Project Construction Set to Begin July 7
The City of Tacoma is scheduled to begin work on the Taylor Way Rehabilitation Project starting Tuesday, July 7, 2020. Work will primarily focus on Taylor Way from East 11th Street to State Route 509. Visit the project page for a current list of construction dates and activities.
Taylor Way is a vital freight corridor for the Port of Tacoma and is one of the main access points to the Blair-Hylebos Peninsula. Proposed improvements to Taylor Way include reconstructing the State Route 509/Taylor Way intersection; new concrete pavement from the Fife border to East 11th Street; improved pedestrian access from Lincoln Avenue to State Route 509; added turn lanes at State Route 509/Taylor Way to reduce congestion; upgraded utilities; new traffic signals; and other amenities. This project is expected to be complete in the fall of 2021.
To minimize impacts to the traveling public, construction that will reduce lanes on Taylor Way to less than one lane in each direction, and on State Route 509 to less than two lanes in each direction, will occur at night or on weekends.
During construction, the City will post updates to the Taylor Way Rehabilitation Project site. The Port of Tacoma will also help provide project updates through text and email alerts. Sign up to receive these alerts through their Subscribe to Updates page or via text message. Text PORT ROADWORK to 468311 (message and data rates apply).
