Port of Tacoma Road Phase 2 Update - May 18

Port of Tacoma Road Phase 2 - May 18

Construction schedule May 18 to 27

Traffic continues to be reduced to one lane in each direction between Marshall Avenue and the State Route 509 bridge.

Paving work planned this weekend

The contractor plans to pave the two east lanes of Port of Tacoma Road this weekend.

The work is weather dependent. While it is scheduled for Saturday, May 21, it may be necessary to move the paving work to Friday, May 20. The contractor will decide by Thursday morning which day paving will occur, and a notification will be sent to subscribers.

If paving is completed on Saturday, all lanes of this section of Port of Tacoma Road will close from 5:30 p.m. Friday, May 20, to 6 a.m. Monday, May 23. Detour routes will be marked along the State Route 509 frontage road, Milwaukee Way and Marshall Avenue.

If the paving needs to be completed Friday, the two lanes of traffic in each direction will remain open. Tacoma police officers will be on-site to help direct traffic through the intersection at Port of Tacoma Road and Marshall Avenue.

Lane switch expected May 27, no work over holiday weekend

The contractor plans to complete finishing work on the east lanes next week. The two lanes of through traffic are expected to move from the west lanes to the east lanes Friday, May 27.

No work will occur over the Memorial Day holiday weekend from May 28 to 30.

Slow down through construction zone

Safety is our top priority. The contractor, City, Tacoma Rail and Port are working with emergency responders to make sure they have access through the construction zone.

The speed limit through the construction zone is 30 mph. Obey all traffic laws, watch for traffic revisions and use extra caution when driving through the port industrial area.
