Council Member Jamika Scott - Position 3

Born and raised in Tacoma’s Hilltop neighborhood, Council Member Jamika Scott was elected in 2023 to represent District 3. As a creative entrepreneur, a community organizer, and now as an elected leader, Council Member Scott has long history of taking steps towards actualizing a Tacoma where all can thrive. In all the ways she serves the community, she is driven by the values of collaboration, equity, justice, and action.

Council Member Scott brings a wealth of experience in leadership, decision making, service, and community activation to the City Council. In 2015, she co-founded the Tacoma Action Collective, with a mission to eliminate systemic oppression and structural violence while empowering the people to build. As a leader in Tacoma’s vital creative economy, she continues to gain first-hand experience in entrepreneurship and demonstrate her commitment to access, inclusion, and the vibrancy of Tacoma. She is excited to continue her work helping Tacoma’s creative community shine and to expand opportunities to advance and celebrate artistic work in the city.

Council Member Scott’s leadership extends to volunteer service throughout Tacoma as well. She has served on the Board of Directors for the Grand Cinema since 2019, including serving as President of the Board of Directors from 2022 to 2023. She served on the Tacoma Arts Commission from January 2021 to December 2023 and the Tacoma Public Library Foundation Board of Directors from February 2021 to March 2023. Council Member Scott is currently a member of the Tacoma Tree Foundation Board of Directors.

In her work to support young people, Council Member Scott has served as an advocate at the YWCA Pierce County for school-aged children impacted by domestic violence. She has also assisted with collaborative and independent childcare, including developing age-appropriate learning activities, and worked on elementary-age children’s programming while serving in AmeriCorps from 2010 to 2011.

Council Member Scott holds a Bachelor of the Arts in Creative Writing from Linfield University. She is a proud graduate of Stadium High School.
