The Tacoma Fire Department is pleased to offer your group two opportunities to learn about firefighting and our department. Follow the links to review the guidelines that will assist you in deciding which activity is best for your group.

School Programs

Providing fire safety education, injury prevention messages, and positive community role models are the goals of the Elementary School Age Program. The safety and well-being of school-age children are important to the Tacoma Fire Department, especially when it comes to their knowledge of fire and life safety skills.  For that reason, we have developed several resources to help you teach your school age group about fire safety. Both public schools and private schools are invited to use this program. If you have questions regarding our school programs please call (253) 591-5740 or contact the Prevention Office.

  • Early Childhood Education and Assistance Programs (ECEAP), HeadStart, Preschool, Kindergarten, and First Grade: Learn Not to Burn Fire Safety Program.
  • Grades 2 – 5: Fire Safety, Career Exploration, and Community Helpers classes.
  • Grades 6 – 8: Fire Safety, and Career Exploration.
  • Grades 9 – 12: Fire Safety, Career Exploration, NextMove Internship, Distracted Driving and the Every 15 Minutes Program. 

If you are interested in a whole school event, we can participate in career and resource fairs as well as assist with evacuation drills. 


Business Services

The Tacoma Fire Department provides fire prevention and emergency preparedness assistance to the City's business community.  Resources for developing fire emergency plans and for training staff are available free of charge. This includes a variety of occupancies, from high-rise buildings to hospitals and long-term care facilities.

Fire Stoppers

Fire Stoppers is an effective intervention program for children who have shown any type of fire setting or fire play behavior.
