Historic Preservation Month

Historic Preservation Month Celebrated Each May in Tacoma

A central aspect of any celebration of preserving history and heritage invites us to acknowledge that Tacoma’s history is layered and complex. It begins with the fact that we here inhabit the traditional lands of the Puyallup Tribe, who have lived here for thousands of years and continue to do so.

National Historic Preservation Month Established in 1973

National Historic Preservation Month was established in 1973 by the National Trust for Historic Preservation in order to promote historic preservation and community pride in local heritage sites.

Tacoma's 2023 Theme is People Saving Places
