Traffic Gardens

Tacoma Safe Routes to School (SRTS) Traffic Gardens

A traffic garden is a mini streetscape for kids to practice traffic safety skills without cars. Traffic gardens are for children walking, bicycling, or using a scooter or skateboard. No motorized vehicles or devices are allowed on the traffic gardens, except wheelchairs.

Find Traffic Gardens in Tacoma - Summer 2023

In partnership with Washington State DSHS Traumatic Brain Injury Council and Tacoma Public Schools, the City of Tacoma is installing temporary traffic gardens at select Tacoma Public School sites. Installed using spray chalk, the temporary traffic gardens will last between three weeks to three months, depending on the weather.
