Purpose
The Audit Advisory Board supports the City Council’s Government Performance and Finance Committee in carrying out its audit advisory, oversight and liaison functions.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Ensuring coordination of audit needs of the City Council and the work of independent auditors retained by the City to audit City programs, functions, and activities
- Making audit management recommendations to the City Council
- Seeking qualified independent auditors to perform such audits
- Acting as a liaison between the City Council and the office of the
City Manager with regard to audits of City programs, functions, and
activities that are not under the direction of the City Council.
Composition of Membership
The Audit Advisory Board consists of each member of the City Council sitting
on the Government Performance and Finance Committee, two members of the
Tacoma Public Utilities (TPU) Public Utility Board, and one person knowledgeable
in government performance and financial auditing, public administration, and government financial and fiscal practices. The Chair of the Government Performance and Finance Committee serves as Chair of the Board.

Terms of Members
Members representing the Government Performance and Finance Committee will serve during their terms on the Government Performance and Finance Committee. Members representing the TPU Board will serve a term as determined by the TPU Board. The Citizen member will serve a two-year term, but the term will not expire until a successor is appointed.
Meeting Schedule
The Audit Advisory Board will meet as often as necessary, but must meet at least four times each year. These meetings are typically scheduled with regularly scheduled Government Performance and Finance Committee meetings. These meetings take place on the first and third Tuesdays of each month at 4:30 PM.

Resolution No. 36620 (August 16, 2005) established the Audit Advisory Board.
