City Providing Sandbag Supplies to the Public During Flood Watch

The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for Western Washington that will remain in effect through the evening of Friday, February 10, 2017. In response, the City of Tacoma’s Public Works and Environmental Services departments are providing free sandbag supplies to the public for personal use. Community members can come to one of two locations to shovel and load their own sandbags.

This service will be available today, Feb. 9 and tomorrow, Feb. 10 at the following locations:

  • Tacoma Asphalt Plant at 3210 Center St., now – 4 p.m. today, Feb. 9 and 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. tomorrow, Feb. 10.
  • Central Wastewater Treatment Plant at 2301 Cleveland Way, now – 3 p.m. today, Feb. 9 and 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. tomorrow, Feb. 10.

The City’s surface water crews work to keep Tacoma’s 22,000-plus storm drains functioning properly. During a heavy rain event the stormwater system could get overwhelmed and some city streets and low areas could flood.  For more information on flooding, visit cityoftacoma.org/flood or to report flooding problems call (253) 591-5585.
