City of Tacoma Observes Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s Birthday on January 20

 

Administrative offices in the Tacoma Municipal Building complex (747 Market St. and 733 Market St.) and in other City of Tacoma facilities will be closed Monday, January 20, in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s birthday. 

The Tacoma Recovery and Transfer Center (3510 S. Mullen St.) will be open as normally scheduled, from 8 a.m. – 6 p.m., and customer garbage, recycling, and food/yard waste collection will not be affected. 

Police and fire personnel will be on duty as normally scheduled, with animal control personnel on duty from 8 a.m. - 8 p.m.   

Following is a list of other closures and service adjustments relating to the upcoming holidays:

  • All Tacoma Public Library locations will be closed on Saturday, January 18. 
  • The Tacoma Municipal Court (930 Tacoma Ave. S) will be closed on Monday, January 20. 
  • There will be no parking enforcement by City staff on Monday, January 20.

The City of Tacoma’s signature event, the annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday Celebration, will take place at 11 AM, with doors opening at 10 AM for a Community Outreach Fair, in the Greater Tacoma Convention Center (1500 Commerce St.).
