Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies Invites Public Comment on Tacoma Police for Assessment
TACOMA, Wash. – The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) is conducting a virtual assessment of the Tacoma Police Department June 17-19 to verify Tacoma Police Department’s policy and procedures, management, operations and support services meet the standards of contemporary law enforcement.
National accreditation from CALEA is a highly prized recognition of law enforcement professional excellence, which only 2 percent of police agencies nationwide possess. In Washington State, Tacoma is one of just eight out of the more than 269 law enforcement agencies that is CALEA accredited.
As part of the virtual on-site assessment, employees and members of the community can provide comment to the assessment team at a public information session Thursday, June 18 from 1-3 PM on Zoom.

Employees and the public are also invited to offer comments to the assessment team by calling (757) 617-9014, Thursday, June 18 from 11 AM to 1 PM
Telephone comments, as well as appearances at the virtual town hall meeting are limited to 5 minutes each and must address the agency’s ability to comply with CALEA standards. The local contact person is Accreditation Manager Sergeant Nick Jensen, (253) 830-6538.
