What is the mission of the Tacoma Police Department? 
The Tacoma Police Department’s mission is to create a safe and secure environment for all to live, work, and visit in Tacoma. It is committed to working together with the community, enforcing the law impartially, preserving peace in Tacoma’s neighborhoods, and safeguarding constitutional guarantees for everyone. 
 
How is the Tacoma Police Department complying with RCW 10.93.160? 
Local law enforcement, including the Tacoma Police Department, does not enforce civil federal immigration law. The Tacoma Police Department does not inquire into immigration status unless it is connected to a criminal investigation.  
 
Will Tacoma Police Department officers be collecting immigration status information? 
Tacoma Police Department officers acting in their official capacity may not collect immigration status information or share it with federal immigration authorities for civil enforcement. Individuals cannot be detained solely for determining immigration status or held based on a civil immigration warrant or hold request. 

How will the Tacoma Police Department work with the community? 
The Tacoma Police Department’s role is to protect all members of the community, regardless of immigration status. It is committed to creating an environment where everyone feels safe reporting crimes or concerns, without fear of deportation or immigration-related actions. 

Does the Tacoma Police Department have a role in immigration enforcement? 
The Tacoma Police Department is not involved in immigration enforcement and is here to serve and protect all community members. 

What agreements does the Tacoma Police Department have with ICE? 
Under RCW 10.93.160, the Tacoma Police Department cannot enter agreements that would grant federal immigration enforcement powers to state or local law enforcement officers (including 287(g) agreements).
