“Talk the Walk” at a Second Round of Pedestrian Crossing Improvement Meetings
The City of Tacoma is planning to spend $2.5 million in one-time funds on planning, designing and constructing pedestrian crossing improvements throughout the community. There will be $300,000 spent in each of the five council districts and $1 million in downtown Tacoma.
After a spring “Talk the Walk” outreach effort to ask the community where pedestrian improvements are most needed and how they should be prioritized, City staff are ready to share what they've learned. The public is invited to two meetings tocontinue the “Talk the Walk” discussion. City staff will share survey and other feedback, the resulting ranking process, which projects are rising to the top, and discuss a tentative project schedule.
The meeting covering downtown, the tide flats, Northeast Tacoma, North Tacoma, and the West End (Council Districts 1 and 2) will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, June 30 at the Wells Fargo Courtyard Conference Room, 1201 Pacific Avenue, in downtown Tacoma. The meeting covering improvements to Central Tacoma, South Tacoma, the South End, and East Side (Council Districts 3, 4 and 5) will be held at 6 p.m.on Wednesday, July 9 at the Blix Elementary School Cafeteria, 1302 East 38th St.
The community feedback is not only guiding these improvements, but also the City’s Transportation Master Plan, which is currently under way outlining the City’s future direction for pedestrian and other transportation improvements.
