E-bike rebates are coming to Washington State! There are two programs launching in April – WE-Bike, led by Washington State, and a City of Tacoma E-Bike Rebate Pilot Program.
We’re working to make the sign-up process as easy as possible – so you just have to apply once and you’ll be automatically entered into one or both programs based on your eligibility.
WE-Bike: Washington State’s E-Bike Rebate Pilot Program
In April 2025, Washington State will be launching WE-Bike, an electric bike (e-bike) rebate pilot program.
The state’s e-bike web page has details on how the program will work.
Key information
- Qualifying applicants will receive rebates for either $1,200 or $300, depending on household income. The $1,200 rebate is available for applicants who have a pre-tax household income at-or-below 80 percent of their county-area median income (also known as AMI). Everyone else is eligible for the $300 rebates.
- Not everyone who wants a voucher will get one – the state expects to give away approximately 10,000 vouchers (and there are 3 million households in Washington state). There will be a maximum of one voucher per household.
- Rebates can only be used at eligible bike shops and will be single-use at point-of-sale. The rebate can be used towards eligible e-bikes, bike helmets, bike lights, bike locks and any maintenance agreement sold at the time of purchase.
Eligibility requirements
To be eligible for an e-bike rebate, applicants must:
- Reside in Washington state
- Be at least 16 years old
- Provide contact information when they apply, including a physical address, email address, phone number and demographic information
Additional information is available on the program web page and more details will continue to be added as the program gets ready to launch.
WE-Bike is being led by the state – but the City of Tacoma will be working to make sure our local residents know how and when to apply for this exciting opportunity!
City of Tacoma E-Bike Rebate Pilot Program: E-Bike Vouchers for Tacoma Neighborhoods Highly Impacted by Air Pollution
The City of Tacoma will be launching an e-bike rebate program in April – focused on overburdened communities highly impacted by air pollution – thanks to grant funding from the Washington State Department of Ecology.
What is an overburdened community highly impacted by air pollution?
The Washington State Department of Ecology is working to improve air quality in Washington communities that are historically overburdened with health, social, and environmental inequities and are highly impacted by criteria air pollution, such as ozone and fine particles. They have identified sixteen Overburdened Communities Highly Impacted by Air Pollution across the state and offered grant funding to help address air quality in these neighborhoods.
Here is a map of these neighborhoods in Tacoma:

The City of Tacoma received grant funding from the Department of Ecology to offer e-bike rebates and distribute air purifiers in these neighborhoods. The City expects to distribute approximately 450 e-bike rebates through this grant.
I live in one of these neighborhoods – how can I sign up?
Requirements for the City of Tacoma e-bike rebates will be consistent with the statewide program, with the added requirement that recipients must be Tacoma residents living in an Overburdened Community Highly Impacted by Air Pollution (as shown on the map in blue).
If you live in one of these neighborhoods – you only have to sign up once and you’ll automatically be entered into both the state’s WE-Bike Program & and City of Tacoma E-Bike Rebate pilot program, based on your eligibility.
Once the application portal opens in April, a link to sign up and more details will be posted here. Sign up for email updates to be notified when you can apply for an e-bike rebate and to receive information on upcoming events.
