Disability Advocacy Award

About the Awards

Disability Advocate of the Year Awards recognize one volunteer, one
professional, and one business for effectively initiating, establishing, and/or supporting services or programs for people with disabilities. All three awards recognize sustained positive impact on the quality of life of people with disabilities living in our community.

Disability advocacy by an individual could be demonstrated through dedicated
community volunteer and/or professional advocacy and/or service initiatives and
support which have made employment, health, housing, civic, cultural, recreational, or
facilities and programs accessible for people with disabilities.

Businesses include for-profit and not-for-profit employers of people with disabilities
and/or providers of services or advocacy that benefit People with Disabilities. We envision a community where the opportunities for citizens with disabilities are
comparable to those of the general population.

Nominations and Submission Form

These three prestigious awards are to acknowledge and honor those who have had sustained positive impact on the quality of life of people with disabilities living in our community.  The Mayor of the City of Tacoma will confer the Awards in October during a City Council meeting.

The 2017 Tacoma Area Disability Advocacy Award Nomination form will be available soon.
