Port of Tacoma Road Update - July 29 - August 10

Port of Tacoma Road Update - July 29 - August 10

This week's construction update for the Port of Tacoma Road reconstruction project:

Construction Between Marshall and Lincoln Avenues Continues

Port of Tacoma Road continues to be reduced to one lane of traffic each direction between Marshall Avenue and Lincoln Avenue.

Paving on the two southbound lanes will take place August 1 to 4.  Driveway access to local businesses will be removed Friday evening July 31 to allow paving on Saturday, August 1 with driveway access being restored Sunday, August 2. The southbound traffic pattern will change on August 8 when traffic will be routed to the new outer southbound lane to allow the contractor to complete the center turn lane. Turn lane paving is tentatively scheduled for August 12 to 14.

Driveway Work Between Lincoln Avenue and East 11th Street

The contractor continues to replace driveways on the west side of the road between Ross Way and East 11th Street. Driveways on the west side are expected to be completed by August 7.

Road Remains Closed Between Lincoln Avenue and WUT Gate

All lanes of Port of Tacoma Road remain closed between Lincoln Avenue and the WUT gate. This full road closure is expected to last through August to complete waterline installation, sidewalk construction, and paving.

Traffic is detoured around the road closure on Lincoln Avenue to Thorne Road and Maxwell Way. Local access is provided between Maxwell Way and the WUT gate, and access to WUT is not impacted.

Water Line Construction Continues

Installation of a 12-inch water line between East 11th Street and Lincoln Avenue continues. The water line is located in the eastern-most lane and is being constructed in segments. Tacoma Water will be connecting existing service lines to the new pipeline this week and the week of August 10.

Rail Work to Close Port of Tacoma Road August 14 to 17

Port of Tacoma Road is expected to be closed between Marshall and Lincoln Avenues from 6 PM Friday, August 14 through 5 AM Monday, August 17 to replace the Tacoma Rail crossing immediately south of Lincoln Avenue. Local access only will be provided between Marshall Avenue and the railroad crossing.
