Construction schedule for Jan. 27 to Feb. 7
This week's construction update for the Port of Tacoma Road reconstruction project:
Final intersection construction may close Main Gate this weekend
The third stage of construction on the
southeast corner of the East 11th Street and Port of Tacoma Road intersection is expected to finish this week.
Weather permitting, the contractor plans to complete the last two stages of work this weekend at the northwest corner of the intersection and the area in front of the Main Gate. The work would close the Main Gate from 3:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 29, to 6:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 1.
During these final two stages, truck staging will remain the same:
Husky trucks: Stage on Port of Tacoma Road until construction is complete.
OCT trucks: Continue to use the Overflow and East 11th Street staging areas; use the West Gate to exit.
Westwood trucks: Continue to use the Overflow and East 11th Street staging areas.
Follow the directions for OCT trucks.
Passenger vehicles will have access to the Main Gate from Port of Tacoma Road only. See maps of traffic patterns for
Stage 4 and
Stage 5.
A decision will be announced Thursday if the final two stages of work will occur this weekend based on the weather forecast.
Port of Tacoma Road to close Jan. 30 and 31
Port of Tacoma Road will be closed Jan. 30 and 31 from Marshall Avenue to Lincoln Avenue to complete work at the railroad crossings. Access to local businesses and emergency vehicles will be provided during the closure.
Stay safe through construction zone
Safety is our top priority. The contractor, City, Tacoma Rail and Port continue to work with emergency responders to make sure they have access through the construction zone.
Remember, the speed limit through the construction zone is 30 mph. Obey all traffic laws, watch for traffic revisions and use extra caution when driving through the port industrial area.
