July 2 City Council Meetings in Temporary Locations as Council Chambers Renovations Wrap Up

-- Council study session at TMB North, Council meeting and Charter amendments public hearing at Tacoma Public Utilities Auditorium next Tuesday --

TACOMA, Wash. – As renovations to the City of Tacoma Council Chambers Tacoma wrap up in the coming days, the Tuesday, July 2 Council study session and meeting will be held in the two temporary locations established in May when renovation work began. The City Council study session will be held in Tacoma Municipal Building North (733 Market Street, Room 16) at noon. The City Council meeting will be held in the Tacoma Public Utilities Auditorium (3628 South 35th Street, Tacoma) at 5 PM, with the public hearing on proposed amendments to the City Charter also in the TPU Auditorium starting at approximately 5:15 PM. The July 2 meetings and hearing will continue to be conducted in a hybrid format that includes in-person and virtual options to attend.

Work to modernize Council Chambers began on May 22 and is projected to be completed in July. The Council Chambers renovations and upgrades are designed to improve accessibility and foster more productive face-to-face conversations, including the removal of the first two rows of chairs and the installation of a conference table in front of the dais. Renovations also include new camera and telecommunications equipment that will improve the experience for viewers watching the TV Tacoma broadcast of Council meetings and the online live streaming.

City Council study sessions and meetings will continue to air on TV Tacoma, and stream on tvtacoma.com as well as Facebook LIVE. They will also be accessible via Zoom. Zoom access details to City Council study sessions and meetings are available, along with agendas and archived recordings, at cityoftacoma.legistar.com.
