Wastewater

Wastewater Management

The Environmental Services Department operates two wastewater treatment plants, cleans billions of gallons of wastewater each year and maintains more than 700 miles of sewer pipe.

The water that leaves your homes through sinks, showers and toilets flows through sewer pipe to a wastewater treatment plant where it is treated before being released into Commencement Bay.

Wastewater Programs

The City of Tacoma recommends getting a Private Side Sewer Inspectionif a building is more than 25 years old and/or does not have plastic PVC pipe running from the building to the sewer main.
