K-9s

Meet Our K-9s

The Tacoma Police Department K-9s are comprised of two Officer/Handler generalist teams with Colt and Odin.  On December 7, 2024, The Tacoma Police Department added K9 Xero (Zero) to our K9 team.

Our K9s are certified by the Washington State Police Canine Association (WSPCA) and are available to support not only our department, but all Metro Canine participating members within Pierce County. Each K-9 team is considered to be uniquely specialized, having received extensive police canine training through WSPCA certification and frequent proficiency qualification tests. Their mission is to provide a unique and valuable tool to aid officers in the location and apprehension of dangerous, fleeing criminals and/or property, and finding drugs. Canines may also be deployed as an instrument of force to defend against assault or to apprehend suspects who present a threat to the community, when the severity of their actions warrants immediate apprehension.

*Donations to support our K9 program are graciously accepted.  Donations provide necessary items our K9s need such as Vet care and working dog equipment such as protective ballistic vests.  Checks can be mailed to our headquarters, 3701 S Pine Street Tacoma, WA  98409 Attention K9 Program.
