Funding Community Needs
Neighborhood and Community Services funds community programs that strengthen our community. Funded programs support our efforts to improve livability, education, civic engagement, and equity and accessibility indicators in the Tacoma 2025 Strategic Plan, including:
Homelessness
Services include encampment outreach; adult, youth, and young adult sheltering; supportive services such as case management; and connection to transitional and long-term housing options.
Household Stability
Services help vulnerable residents keep their homes in good repair and make ends meet financially by providing access to food banks, rental assistance, and other basic services.
Civic Participation
Programming engages residents to build capacity to solve community issues and create new connections between the City and under-served populations.
Domestic Violence
Supportive services to survivors of intimate partner violence include counseling, safety planning, legal services, and emergency housing.
Youth Development
Programming prepares youth and young adults to meet the challenges of adolescence and adulthood and achieve their full potential by offering mentoring, case management, educational and career services.
Senior Services
Wellness activities and programs support seniors to stay healthy, active, and engaged. Services for financial planning, housing assistance, and health care are offered directly at the City's senior centers and at other agencies within the community.
Mental Health and Substance Use Disorders
Services funded range from inpatient care and emergency response to individual and group outpatient counseling from qualified professionals.
