Tacoma's Community and Economic Development Department  provides technical assistance to business districts and targeted retail areas - with a focus on retail recruitment and mixed-use development - through a professional and trained staff.

Where there is a cluster of businesses in a walkable neighborhood, the business and property owners may choose to organize to participate in activities that enhance the experience for their customers; we are available to consult with these groups to help them get organized and maneuver through the myriad of city services.  Although any group is free to organize for the betterment of their area, the City has a process for officially recognizing Neighborhood Business Districts.
