Language Access

Our Commitment to Establishing and Maintaining Accessibility Through Language Access

The City of Tacoma is committed to establishing and maintaining accessibility for our community. We want all of our community members to enjoy the benefits of our programs, services, and activities. We recognize that access is not only a civil right, but our social responsibility to uphold and promote diversity and inclusion.

In compliance with federal, state, and local law, we are committed to ensuring that residents who have limited English proficiency (LEP) or choose to develop their lives in languages other than English, are able to access information, programs, and services offered by local government.

Language Access is an Ongoing Effort

With equity as a guiding principle and in alignment with our City Council Priorities, we are implementing the City of Tacoma Language Access Plan. We are focused on gathering the necessary data to expedite and predict culturally appropriate language services in our communities. At the same time, the City is expanding its language services’ coverage by contracting with highly qualified language service providers and by partnering with community members to ensure meaningful access to City programs and services.

What Language Access Services We Currently Offer

The City of Tacoma offers translation and interpretation of vital information and documents.

For all city public meetings and events, residents may request language interpretation. Please request these services at least 48 hours or more in advance.
