Style Guide

All of the departments within the City of Tacoma have a public representation through the City's website that should serve as an effective and informative resource for the City's constituents.  While working and communicating with the public, we have a responsibility to provide consistency through the use of common language and formatting standards.

Across the board, style guides are used in businesses, schools, and government organizations to ensure this consistency is maintained.  As such, the Media and Communications Office (MCO) is publishing the City of Tacoma's Web Style Guide to ensure that all communication with the City's constituents via our websites and emails maintains this consistency to facilitate an effective representation of our branding and mission.

This style guide should serve as a helpful resource for the City's Web Stewards to produce web pages and emails that effectively and accurately represent the City of Tacoma.

It is required that all internal web pages fall within the guidelines listed within these pages.  External sites will have a similar style guide, but some changes will be made as needed.

The City of Tacoma Web Style Guide is considered a living document.  Changes can and will be made as the City's online presence grows.  When a change is applied, all Web Stewards will be notified and MCO will work with you to adhere to the new policies.
