Tacoma Recovery and Transfer Center Service Changes Begins May 18
Starting Monday, May 18, the Tacoma Recovery and Transfer Center will be open seven days per week, from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., to: 

• City of Tacoma residential customers with garbage or yard waste loads only.
• City of Tacoma commercial customers with garbage loads only. 
• The Recycle Center and Household Hazardous Waste Facility will be open to residential customers on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and Mondays. Both facilities will be closed on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.  
• The Goodwill drop off station at the Recycle Center will remain closed until further notice. 
• The Solid Waste front office lobby and EnviroHouse will also remain closed until further notice.   

This facility will not accept any self-haul garbage or yard waste loads from outside the city limits of Tacoma. Residential customers must have an active solid waste residential collection account serviced by the City of Tacoma and be able to prove residency. Read the full announcement.

King County facilities are no longer accepting self-haul customers from outside of King County.

Food and yard waste make up a third of Tacoma’s garbage. Reducing the amount of food/yard waste you throw away may mean you can downsize your garbage container and that can save you money.

Whether you are a Tacoma resident or business, you can help reduce the amount of trash going to the landfill by using the City’s food and yard waste service.  The collected material is then composted at a local composting facility. 

Sign up for food and yard waste services by calling (253) 502-2100. If you already have food/yard waste services in your plan, getting started is easy! Just place any unwanted or unused food in your brown bins along with your normal yard waste.
