Beacon Activity Center Improvements

415 S. 13th Street, Tacoma

Facility renovation is underway at Beacon Activity Center (415 South 13th Street) to address repair needs and make improvements to the space. This will enable the facility to function long-term as a Multi-Generational Center, serving as both a senior activity center and an overnight shelter for young adults, while providing some cross over services and activities between these groups. In an effort to minimize impacts to ongoing services at the facility, construction will be completed over several phases.

Phase 1 Improvements (Completed Spring 2022):

This project focused on priority needs to enhance the level of service at the facility. Improvements included:

In addition, as part of the Revitalizing Tacoma’s Brewery District project that is under construction, improvements will be made to the ADA parking on Fawcett Avenue adjacent to the facility.

Phase 2 Improvements (In progress):

This project is focusing on deferred repair and replacements, and modernization of building systems that will advance the City’s electrification/decarbonization goals. Improvements Include: 

• New siding, windows, and exterior paint
• Replacement of the flat roof
• Electrical upgrades to replace and convert the existing natural gas boiler system.
• Installation of a 100% electric HVAC system, that will provide energy efficient heating and cooling
• Interior cosmetic upgrades to the senior restrooms and flooring replacement

Phase 2 Improvements are anticipated to be complete by fourth quarter 2024.
