Port of Tacoma Update - August 12 - August 21

Construction Schedule for August 12 to August 21

This week's construction update for the Port of Tacoma Road reconstruction project:

Slow Down to Avoid a Speeding Ticket

The speed limit on Port of Tacoma Road is 30 mph through the construction zone to protect workers and the public. Tacoma Police will issue tickets to drivers who exceed the speed limit.

Rail Work to Close Port of Tacoma Road this Weekend

Port of Tacoma Road will be closed between Marshall and Lincoln Avenues from 6 PM Friday, August 14, through 5 AM Monday, August 17, to replace the Tacoma Rail crossing immediately south of Lincoln Avenue. Local access only will be provided between Marshall Avenue and the railroad crossing this weekend.

Construction Between Marshall and Lincoln Avenues Continues

Port of Tacoma Road continues to be reduced to one lane of traffic each direction between Marshall and Lincoln avenues.

Turn lane paving will be completed today. Access to businesses on the west side of Port of Tacoma Road will be restored by Monday, August 17. Pavement markings between Marshall and Lincoln Avenues will be installed August 17 to 21.

The Port of Tacoma Road/Marshall Avenue intersection construction planned for this weekend has been postponed.

Construction Between WUT and East 11th Street

The last driveway on the west side of Port of Tacoma Road will be finished this week.

Road Remains Closed Between Lincoln Avenue and WUT Gate

All lanes of Port of Tacoma Road remain closed between Lincoln Avenue and the WUT gate. This full road closure is expected to last through August to complete waterline installation, sidewalk construction and paving. Paving of the southbound lanes will begin August 15.

Traffic is detoured around the road closure on Lincoln Avenue to Thorne Road and Maxwell Way. Local access is provided between Maxwell Way and the WUT gate, and access to WUT is not impacted.

Water Line Construction Continues

Tacoma Water continues to connect existing service lines to the new 12-inch water line constructed between Lincoln Avenue and East 11th Street.
