Port of Tacoma Road Update - Dec. 30

Port of Tacoma Road Update - Dec. 30

This week's construction update for the Port of Tacoma Road reconstruction project:

Construction continues from Ross to East 11th Street
Work is underway on the final stretch of Port of Tacoma Road between Ross Way and East 11th Street. The contractor expects to complete paving the west lanes this week.

Traffic is expected to move to the outside lanes Monday to allow grinding and paving to occur on the center lane next week. The Ross Way intersection is expected to remain closed through next week. Local traffic will be able to access businesses on Ross Way from Thorne Road.

Possible closure at Washington United Terminals next weekend
If the weather cooperates, all five lanes of Port of Tacoma Road in front of Washington United Terminals are expected to close from 4 p.m. Friday, Jan. 8, to 6 a.m. Monday, Jan 11.

Traffic will be detoured around the construction on Lincoln Avenue, Thorne Road and Maxwell Way. The contractor will determine next week if construction will occur during this weekend.

Final intersection work expected to begin in January
Construction is expected to begin in January on the intersection of East 11th Street and Port of Tacoma Road.

Grinding and paving will happen in four phases. Intersection construction is expected to take 30 to 45 days to complete, weather permitting.

Expect traffic patterns to change during this work. More information and maps will be provided the week before this final piece of construction begins.

Stay safe through construction zone
Safety is our top priority. The contractor, City, Tacoma Rail and Port continue to work with emergency responders to make sure they have access through the construction zone.

Remember, the speed limit through the construction zone is 30 mph. Obey all traffic laws, watch for traffic revisions and use extra caution when driving through the port industrial area.
