Port of Tacoma Road Update - Feb. 3

Port of Tacoma Road Update - Feb. 3
Construction schedule for Feb. 3 to 14

This week's construction update for the Port of Tacoma Road reconstruction project:

Intersection construction expected to finish next week
Major construction at the intersection of East 11th Street and Port of Tacoma Road is expected to be completed early next week.

The northwest corner of the intersection is currently closed, and paving work is expected to be completed this week. The fifth and final stage of construction in front of the Main Gate should begin this weekend and be completed early next week, weather permitting.

During these final two stages, truck traffic patterns at the Main Gate have changed. Cones, barrels and signs are in place to help direct traffic around the work:

OCT trucks: Outbound trucks must exit through the West Gate. A removable barricade prevents OCT trucks from exiting through the Main Gate.
Husky trucks: The outbound lane through the Main Gate is narrower. Use extreme caution when exiting.
Triangle lot closed: The triangle lot that Husky trucks use as a tie-down area will be closed this week.
Personal vehicles: Main Gate access is only from Port of Tacoma Road.

Truck staging remains the same:

Husky trucks: Stage on Port of Tacoma Road until construction is complete.
OCT trucks: Continue to use the Overflow and East 11th Street staging areas; use the West Gate to exit.
Westwood trucks: Continue to use the Overflow and East 11th Street staging areas. Follow the directions for OCT trucks.

Expect delays and be prepared for disruptions at the intersection. Please be patient while the contractor completes the final phase of the reconstruction project.

Slow down through construction zone

Remember, the speed limit through the construction zone is 30 mph.

Safety is our top priority. The contractor, City, Tacoma Rail and Port continue to work with emergency responders to make sure they have access through the construction zone.

Obey all traffic laws, watch for traffic revisions and use extra caution when driving through the port industrial area.

All lanes open from Marshall Avenue to East 11th Street
All five lanes of Port of Tacoma Road are open from Marshall Avenue to just before East 11th Street, with temporary striping marking the lane boundaries.

Expect occasional lane closures as the contractor completes final work on the roadway.
