Port of Tacoma Road Update - Jan. 6

Port of Tacoma Road Update - Jan. 6

This week's construction update for the Port of Tacoma Road reconstruction project:

Final section of road to be completed this week
The contractor expects this week to complete paving the center lane of Port of Tacoma Road between Ross Way and East 11th Street.

Traffic is currently routed on the outside lanes to accommodate the completion of this final stretch of roadway. The Ross Way intersection is expected to open to through traffic on Monday, Jan. 11.

Closure at Washington United Terminals this weekend
All five lanes of Port of Tacoma Road in front of Washington United Terminals are expected to close from 3 p.m. Friday, Jan. 8, to 6 a.m. Monday, Jan 11. The work is weather dependent.

Traffic will be detoured around the construction on Lincoln Avenue, Thorne Road and Maxwell Way. The WUT staging area is expected to close at 3 p.m. to accommodate the work.

Final intersection work to begin Jan. 11
Construction is expected to begin Jan. 11 on the intersection of East 11th Street and Port of Tacoma Road.

The work is weather-dependent and expected to last 30 to 45 days. Grinding and paving will take place in five stages, with each stage expected to last a week. The first stage will close the southwest corner of the intersection.

Traffic patterns will change throughout construction of the intersection, including truck access to Husky Terminal. More information and maps will be provided Thursday detailing the traffic changes during this first stage of work.

Expect delays and be prepared for disruptions at the intersection. Please be patient while the contractor completes the final phase of the reconstruction project.

Stay safe through construction zone
Safety is our top priority. The contractor, City, Tacoma Rail and Port continue to work with emergency responders to make sure they have access through the construction zone.

Remember, the speed limit through the construction zone is 30 mph. Obey all traffic laws, watch for traffic revisions and use extra caution when driving through the port industrial area.
