Port of Tacoma Road Update - July 8 - July 17

Port of Tacoma Road Update - July 8 - 17

Port of Tacoma Road Reduced to Two Traffic Lanes Starting July 8 Between Marshall Avenue and Lincoln Avenue

Port of Tacoma Road between Marshall Avenue and Lincoln Avenue will be reduced to one lane of traffic in each direction starting July 8 to allow the contractor to remove existing pavement and construct new pavement. Traffic on this section of road will be restricted to two lanes until new pavement construction is completed for this section of the road in late August.

The contractor will begin removing pavement July 8 on the east side of Port of Tacoma Road between Marshall Avenue and Lincoln Avenue.  Following removal of existing pavement, the contractor will construct new pavement on the two east lanes starting approximately July 19.

Port of Tacoma Road Remains Closed Between Lincoln Avenue and Washington United Terminal

All lanes of Port of Tacoma Road are closed between Lincoln Avenue and Washington United Terminals' gate.  Access to Washington United Terminals (WUT) is not impacted. The full road closure of this section is expected to last up through early August while U.S. Oil removes contaminated material and the City paves the road with concrete.

Traffic will be detoured around the road closure on Lincoln Avenue to Thorne Road and Maxwell Way. Local access will be provided between Maxwell Way and the Washington United Terminals' gate. Trucks exiting WUT will take a right turn out of the terminal and follow the detour route.

Water Line Construction from East 11th Street to Lincoln Avenue

On July 8, the contractor will begin installing a new 12” diameter water line between East 11th Street and Lincoln Avenue. The water line, located in the eastern-most lane, will be constructed in segments starting near East 11th Street and will involve a two lane closure for the segment being worked on.  Water line construction will last several weeks.

Husky Trucks Should Use Milwaukee Way Route

Husky trucks should follow the detour along North Frontage Road to Milwaukee Way as their main route to the East 11th Street Staging Area. See the suggested route on page 2 of this flier.

The Overflow Staging Area will be used on an as-needed basis, and the lanes may shift depending on the needs of Husky Terminal and Olympic Container Terminal (OCT). Follow the signs to make sure you are staging in the correct lane.
