Port of Tacoma Road Update - Phase 2 - May 5

The City of Tacoma’s contractor expects to begin work May 9 on the second phase of Port of Tacoma Road reconstruction. The start date was pushed back one week due to material shipment delays.

Beginning Monday, the two northbound lanes of Port of Tacoma Road will be closed from Marshall Avenue to the State Route 509 Bridge. Expect traffic to be reduced to one lane in each direction along this section of road.

The contractor expects to begin removing pavement from the northbound lanes on May 12. A full closure of Port of Tacoma Road to pave the two northbound lanes is expected the weekend of May 21, weather permitting.

Slow down through construction zone

Safety is our top priority. The contractor, City, Tacoma Rail and Port continue to work with emergency responders to make sure they have access through the construction zone.

The speed limit through the construction zone is 30 mph. Obey all traffic laws, watch for traffic revisions and use extra caution when driving through the port industrial area.
