Port of Tacoma Road Update - August 5 - August 17

Construction Schedule for August 5 to August 17

This week's construction update for the Port of Tacoma Road reconstruction project:

Construction Zone Speed Limit to be Enforced

The speed limit on Port of Tacoma Road is 30 mph through the construction zone to protect workers and the public. Tacoma Police will issue tickets to drivers who exceed the speed limit.

Construction Between Marshall and Lincoln Avenues Continues

Port of Tacoma Road continues to be reduced to one lane of traffic each direction between Marshall and Lincoln Avenues.

The southbound traffic pattern is expected to change the morning of Friday, August 7. Traffic will be routed to the new outer southbound lane, allowing the contractor to complete the center turn lane. Turn lane paving is scheduled for August 11 to 13.

Port of Tacoma Road is expected to be closed between Marshall and Lincoln Avenues from 6 PM Friday, August 14, through 5 AM Monday, August 17, to construct half of the Port of Tacoma Road/Marshall Avenue intersection. Alternate routes are advised.

Construction Between Lincoln Avenue and East 11th Street

The Port of Tacoma Road/Ross Way intersection is being constructed August 4 to 8. Sidewalks from Ross Way to East 11th Street will be constructed August 6 and 7.

Road Remains Closed Between Lincoln Avenue and WUT Gate

All lanes of Port of Tacoma Road remain closed between Lincoln Avenue and the WUT gate. This full road closure is expected to last through August to complete waterline installation, sidewalk construction and paving.

Traffic is detoured around the road closure on Lincoln Avenue to Thorne Road and Maxwell Way. Local access is provided between Maxwell Way and the WUT gate, and access to WUT is not impacted.

Water Line Construction Continues

Installation of a 12-inch water line between East 11th Street and Lincoln Avenue continues. The water line is located in the eastern-most lane and is being constructed in segments. Once installed, Tacoma Water will connect existing service lines to the new pipeline.

Rail Work to Close Port of Tacoma Road August 14 to 17

Port of Tacoma Road is expected to be closed between Marshall and Lincoln Avenues from 6 PM Friday, August 14 through 5 AM Monday, August 17 to replace the Tacoma Rail crossing immediately south of Lincoln Avenue. Local access only will be provided between Marshall Avenue and the railroad crossing.
